Welcome to the A to Z challenge, a blog post everyday of April apart from Sundays, covering every letter of the alphabet. My theme is travel, that thing that we haven’t been able to do over the last 12 months, so it seemed appropriate to reminisce about past travels we’ve taken, looking forward to when we can travel freely again.

Start of the final week and we’ve still got the most tricky letters to come, but today we’re taking a time out and enjoying some of our favourite views from our previous travels.

In London there are certain views that are iconic, and I love this one on the left, taken in Trafalgar Square with one of the famous lions in the foreground and Big Ben in the distance. The middle view is South Molton Street at Christmas time, and every year we would go into London before Christmas just to enjoy the lights, and these were my favourites. The last picture is street art that we stumbled upon by accident in Shoreditch, it’s by the street artist Roa and it’s absolutely brilliant.

Scotland has so many beautiful areas to explore and it feels like around every corner there is a view worth photographing. On the left is Glen Coe which always has people stopping to take photographs, and on this day when we stopped there were quite a few young people taking selfies of themselves with really weird mouth pouts. The picture on the right is a loch on the way to the west coast and the day we went past the weather was perfect to create these beautiful reflections.

The below view is another one that I had wanted to see in person for many years. This is Lindisfarne, or to give it its other name, Holy Island, which is off the coast of Northumberland in North East England. You can only get onto the island by car at low tide, and it is a significant site in Christian pilgrimages.

This photo represents what has happened to us more than once in scenic spots – have a view of fog rather than anything else. The most disappointing occurrence of this was in Tasmania when we were staying at Freycinet Peninsula and planned to walk to Wineglass Bay for a picnic on our anniversary but instead we ended up having a picnic in our room as it was pouring with rain and cloud had descended down to the ground. The next day the sun was shining so as we were leaving we stopped to walk up to the lookout overlooking Wineglass Bay, which I should add is often voted in the top ten beaches in the world. Anyway, after climbing up to the lookout, we discovered a thick cloud had descended and was just lying over the beach. We stayed for a while with the other hopefuls, with it becoming quite amusing, a sliver of what looked like sand would appear through the cloud, and everyone would get really excited, taking lots of pictures of this brief glimpse of the beach.

I think it’s so important to just stop and enjoy the view for a while, really appreciate the beauty and diversity of this world we live in. Don’t just look at it through your phone or camera – soak it in first. This is why I don’t have a picture of the northern lights as I was so in awe of them that I just stood there crying (yes, I do this a lot) at the wonder dancing across the sky, rather than taking my eyes off them to get my phone. Here’s a few very different views from around the world that we’ve enjoyed.
